Construction Experience
ECL was formed in 1979 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Laing plc. In 1996 ECL
became a private company. Many of the staff joined ECL from Laing and have
qualifications and experience working in Construction. ECL has always focussed
exclusively within the Construction environment. This means that we understand
the language and terminology used, the status and roles of the various parties,
relative importance and significance of documents and processes. We have been
told that this makes briefing ECL an easier and straight forward task. The risk
of abortive work due to misunderstanding is significantly reduced.
Successful briefing is considered by many clients to be one of the key ingredients
of a successful relationship.
Identifying the need
It is rarely efficient nor money well spent to re-invent
something that already exists. We are happy to help
clients make existing or industry standard software
work for them in the way that they require. Existing
technology and existing data sets are also important
assets that will be considered. Software Development
is best done as an iterative process between the user
and the developer. The detail of the software will
therefore evolve with the process but it is important
to capture carefully and right at the start what is
driving the development and the benefits that will
deliver the return on the investment.
Delivered on time and to budget
ECL are part of the Construction Industry and therefore sign up fully to the
need to deliver on time and within budget.
Quality software
ECL invests considerable money in software development that we go on to sell to
our clients. Our customers will not buy software that is not good software and
good value.
Providing a complete package
Developing / evaluating the client brief – in many cases, ECL can also assist
in preparing the initial brief;
Systems Analysis (as and where required) – this can often lead to improved
business processes;
System Design (developing detailed specifications) – including recommendations
on technology as and where appropriate;
System Development (using ECL’s proven methodology) – managed against the
agreed specification, with regular project review meetings;
System Implementation and Support (including training) – this may also
extend to supporting the larger roll-out programmes.
Throughout the project, ECL will provide a dedicated Project Manager to coordinate
the process, and ensure delivery to the agreed programme. On larger projects, this
will include agreed delivery milestones supported by appropriate time and cost control.
As well as developing systems around proven database technology, ECL have also
developed a number of CAD based solutions. This common skill set is ideally suited
to meet the needs and requirements of today’s construction industry. This is your
opportunity to have this proven team working for you.
